Eliminate spreadsheet misreads and row-mismatch hallucinations
Your AI reads your tables as rows and columns, not as a blur it has to guess at. Each sheet becomes a heading and a Markdown table with clean grid markers, and formulas become the values they showed. Audits, performance checks and cross-referencing come back with the numbers in the right cells.

What you get
- One markdown table per sheet, with the sheet name as its heading.
- Cell values, including the results of formulas.
- Old .xls workbooks handled the same way.
Before you drop it in
- A big sheet makes a big table. A 5,000-row export as markdown can cost more tokens than you'd expect. Filter to the rows you need and save that as a new file first.
- Every sheet converts, including the ones you forgot were there. Delete scratch sheets before you upload.
What survives, what doesn't
| Cell values | ✓ Kept | |
| Formulas | △ Partly | You get the calculated value, not the formula. |
| Sheet names | ✓ Kept | Become headings. |
| Dates | △ Partly | Come through as full timestamps, e.g. 2026-03-01 00:00:00. |
| Merged cells | ✗ Lost | Split into separate cells. |
| Colours, borders, conditional formatting | ✗ Lost | |
| Charts and pivot caches | ✗ Lost |
What it looks like
A two-sheet workbook converts to:
## Budget | Line | Planned | Actual | | --- | --- | --- | | Labour | 42000 | 39800 | | Plant | 12500 | 13100 | ## Notes | Date | Note | | --- | --- | | 2026-08-04 00:00:00 | Plant overrun approved |
Questions about Excel (XLSX)
Do formulas convert?
You get the value the formula was showing when the file was saved. The formula itself doesn't come through.
Can I convert .xls as well as .xlsx?
Yes, both.
Why did my dates come out with 00:00:00?
Excel stores dates as date-times. The converter shows the whole thing. Format the column as text in Excel first if you want clean dates.
Will a huge spreadsheet save me tokens?
Not necessarily. A markdown table of 5,000 rows is a lot of text. The meter shows you before you paste it anywhere.
